Creative Revival: Newsletters As Mirror Work
A 30-day revival you can return to again and again to remind you why you hit “publish”. This revival is for you if you are longing to be witnessed by yourself and your peers, desiring to reclaim and reflect your creative power and you’re ready to answer the ancestral calls inviting you to return home to yourself.
“There must be a revolution in the way we see, the way we look. Such a revolution would necessarily begin with diverse programs of critical education that would stimulate collective awareness that the creation and public sharing of art is essential to any practice of freedom. If black folks are collectively to affirm our subjectivity in resistance, as we struggle against forces of domination and move toward the invention of the decolonized self, we must set our imaginations free. Acknowledging that we have been and are colonized both in our minds and in our imaginations, we begin to understand the need for promoting and celebrating creative expression.”
bell hooks, Art on My Mind: Visual Politics (1995)
The Revival Schedule
During the first 3 weeks of the revival we will root your creative practice inside the core themes of ancestry, embodiment and commitment before going public. Through investigating our ancestral calls, locating our creative embodiment practice and clarifying our commitments we will give your public practice a fortifying foundation beyond the metrics of “likes”, follower counts, subscribers, etc. This sturdy foundation allows you to ground in your “why” when negative self-talk, doubt or your faith wains. Through developing these spiritual communication skills your own creative permission expands. As your own creative permission expands, so does what you’re able to offer.
WEEK 1
Ancestry: Locate Your Theme
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26TH, 2025
In this class we will use love letter writing and mirror work as ancestral veneration practices opening lines of bi-directional communication we can engage in weekly or bi-weekly inside our newsletters. This is how we will locate the theme of your newsletter and generate inspiration for your welcome email.
WEEK 2
Embodiment: Ground Inside Your Framework
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2ND, 2025
In this class we will engage in a wolrdbuilding activity that challenges us to imagine conditions of safety made possible through engaging in interspecies modes of relation. Through this worldbuilding activity you will locate an embodiment practice you can return to and expand from week to week. You will also leave this class with a re-usable framework you can leverage in future creative dispatches, saving you time and empowering creative flow through never starting from scratch.
WEEK 3
Commitment: Choose Your Newsletter Provider
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9TH, 2025
Now that we’ve answered our ancestral call and dropped into deeper registers of relation through creative embodiment work, we will leverage that foundation to fortify our commitments to our practice. In this class we will choose your newsletter provider and create a list of commitments, a living document we will return to and water inside our practice of developing deeper levels of creative self-trust that give us the courage to hit “publish” every week/bi-weekly on our newsletter.
WEEK 4
Open Studio: Showcase Published Newsletter
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16TH, 2025
After the first 3 weeks of our revival you will have everything you need to establish a public creative practice and hit “publish” on your first newsletter. This Open Studio session will serve as our closing ceremony for asking any final questions and sharing your newsletter with your peers by sharing your screen and reading from it or simply talking through it. Sharing your newsletter with your peers during Open Studio will also help you seed your newsletter with the most supportive early subscribers! Will you let us witness you?
“The creative spirit is as much a process depending on our receptivity as it is a process depending on our willful conjuring up.”

What Seeda School Worldbuilders Are Saying
"It’s been so incredibly powerful to see the way each prompt, each assignment, each framework, in such a short amount of time, brings the threads of my practice into harmony and makes it so the universe can clearly respond. I can’t even count the number epiphanies I’ve had since I’ve started working with you. Thank you."

What Seeda School Worldbuilders Are Saying
"The Seeda School experience has been such an affirming and generative experience for me. I am often seeking out classes and opportunities to learn new skills, be in process with my peers, and engage in self-development and personal growth. My experience with Seeda School, via Ayana's generous facilitation and framework, felt so deeply aligned with my values, my creative praxis, and my worldview. Guided by the brilliant offerings of Black feminists, Ayana has cultivated such a sacred space with an inspiring cohort of people. Since participating in the cohort, I have revisited the curriculum, and it continues to be a transformative guide as I chart my path forward."

Meet The Artist and Facilitator Behind Seeda School
My name is Ayana Zaire Cotton and I am an artist, writer and facilitator from Prince George’s County, Maryland. During a biotechnology residency at Ginkgo Bioworks I wrote the non-linear speculative fiction novella Cykofa: The Seeda Origin Story in collaboration with creative writing software I engineered at the Recurse Center. I am also the founder and steward of Seeda School, named after Seeda, the non-binary biotechnologist living in Cykofa, an abolitionist community seeded by black feminist ancestors. Seeda School supports a community of practice for black feminist worldbuilding and creative actualization. Through Seeda School I am engaged in my own practice of mirror work through publishing a weekly newsletter and podcast For the Worldbuilders. Inside the ecosystem of my speculative practice my intention is to braid storytelling, software, facilitation, and interspecies collaboration to engage our collective imagination around the worlds we need in the future we desire. I continue to show up to this practice to allow you to witness my ongoing transformation and invite you to join us!

Why Now?
You are ready to release your fear of being seen, perceived, judged or misunderstood. You are ready to release the fear of abandonment disguising itself as a fear of accountability. Inside the practice of hiding from eachother we are ultimately hiding from ourselves. I did this for years and realized my refusal of vulnerability was rooted in a fear of abandonment that ultimately required me to abandon myself.
Creative practice is a spiritual practice for many reasons, but one of the most transformative reasons might be inside the potent power of witnessing. bell hooks reminds us, “our fear may not go away, but it will not stand in the way.” Why now? Because you are no longer willing to allow fear to stand in the way of the life-affirming practice of witnessing your own transformation and allowing others to do the same.
